Hey Everyone!

It's been a crazy couple of months. Finished up a great U.S. tour behind our new live cd, 'Cinemascope' - thanks to you awesome fans for making it out! -and starting up another run in the SOUTH and SOUTHWEST with tourmates Alpha Rev and Nic Cowan.

There's also some GOOD NEWS and some BAD NEWS.

The GOOD NEWS: I was cast in Steven Spielberg's new film about Abraham Lincoln. They're filming here in Virginia and it's going to be a great experience (no, I am not playing Honest Abe)...stars Daniel Day-Lewis, Tommy Lee Jones, Sally Field, Tim Blake Nelson and tons of other great actors.

The BAD NEWS: We have to reschedule some shows, as filming for the scenes I'm a part of takes place Nov. 1-8, Don't worry we are working on it now. So, NASHVILLE, GREENSBORO, GREENVILLE, AND RALEIGH, we apologize!

Since Barry will be playing a part in Spielberg's new film, Carbon Leaf has rescheduled their November 5th show at Lincoln Theatre in Raleigh, NC to December 30th.

We've been kicking around the idea of doing a live DVD for a few years now, so when our friend Rex Teese approached us with the idea of shooting something, we jumped at the chance.

Rex, who is an amazing video editor, had the concept of bringing an intimate, acoustic, 'storyteller' vibe into the studio. That way we could capture the best of both worlds: the great acoustics and technical ability of a studio with the feel of a live show. So, on a cold night in February of 2010 we packed a 70ish person audience into In Your Ear's Studio A and let the (virtual) tape roll.

The shooting of the DVD brings Carbon Leaf around full circle...I started as an intern there in 1993 and the band recorded its first few albums there at night. It felt like a bit of a homecoming for us here in Richmond that evening and Live, Acoustic...And In Cinemascope caught it all perfectly.

This 3-disc set captures the band's entire 18 song performance from a memorable evening in their hometown of Richmond, Virginia. The new CD and DVD was recorded and shot in early 2010 at In Your Ear Studios, the site where the band produced several of their earliest albums.

Captured in an intimate setting with a small audience, the pristine recording displays Carbon Leaf's stellar musicianship and songwriting prowess, while also providing a revealing glimpse into the band's personalities.

As Barry Privett notes, "In a lot of ways, this performance represents Carbon Leaf at our most naked. It gets somewhat easy to hide behind a wall of sound, so stripping things down to their acoustic essentials is a challenge in simplicity. You're reminded of how the songs first began--a couple of guys sitting around with their acoustics on the porch, just playing some chords and scatting some melodies, searching for that spark of inspiration...for the story."

Live, Acoustic...And In Cinemascope features songs that span Carbon Leaf's career, performed at the peak of their musical form and in a format that reveals their considerable skills and character. As Privett concludes, "It feels good to revisit and lay it bare again."

Every Friday from May 6- June 24 Brown's Island celebrates Friday Cheers!

This year they're celebrating 27 years of music and Carbon Leaf is kicking it all off with a special show on May 6th!
